- This is a great resource for preparing for the math subject test on the SAT. The organization of the material makes it especially useful. Beginning with a brief but thorough discussion of SAT subject tests and test taking strategies, the book includes a math review section that covers basic arithmetic; fractions, decimals, and percents; and ratios and proportions. Comprehensive reviews are included for the following subjects algebra, plane geometry, and solid and coordinate geometry; trigonometry, functions; and statistics, counting, and probability; imaginary and complex numbers, sequences, and logic. Each of these subjects is broken down by general topic, and each topic is followed by exercises and an explanation of correction solutions. The page margins are extra wide and populated with tips, notes and things to remember. Three practice tests are included. Each test includes an answer key, instructions on how to calculate an approximate score, and a detailed explanation of the correct answers. The inside cover includes instructions on how to get free access to two more practice tests. These tests are supposed to work on smartphones and tablets. The book also includes an index, so you can go right to a specific problem area.
- I ordered this for my son, who is about to take the SAT. He is very pleased with the book.
Main features
The problem exercises have little notes off to the side....titled Tip, Smart Strategy, Remember, and Note. These extra add-ons to the problems are particularly helpful.
It includes five practice tests, two of which are online.
The first section provides an overview of SAT tests...how they are scored, what you should be aware of regarding math tests in particular, and it even includes test taking strategies with examples given. It also has a section that covers math review, which provides guidance for basic arithmetic .
The other chapters include algebra, plane geometry, solid and coordinate geometry, trigonometry, functions, statistics, counting, and probability.
Overall, we highly recommend this book. It is well laid out and very thorough in covering essential math skills for the SAT.
I hope this review helped you to some degree....thanks for reading! - I took five ACH tests back in the days when these SAT Subject Tests were called ACHievement Tests. And I didn't take one without first working through the Barron's book dealing with that exam. It's remarkable to see what has changed - the name of the test, and calculators are now allowed - and what hasn't - Barron's is still writing one of the best test prep books. Some books just have questions and answers alongside a list of correct answers. Barron's always teaches the material first, giving you test-taking tactics along the way, and then tests you. Their answers provide a close-up view of how you should have gotten the right answer most efficiently and accurately. These books worked well for me, and the tests haven't changed so much that they won't work well for you. Go through this in an organized dedicated manner for a full 60 days prior to the test, reserving the last ten days for practice tests, and you'll come through with a score you can be proud of.
